A Saying That Shouldn’t Go Without Saying - Pastor Ricky Kurth

A Saying That Shouldn’t Go Without Saying -
Pastor Ricky Kurth

“This is a faithful saying…that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…” (I Timothy 1:15).
You’ve probably heard the old saying, “Don’t criticize a man until you’ve walked a mile in his shoes.” I once heard a comedian add, “That way when you do criticize him, you’re a mile away, and you’ve got his shoes!”
While this addition makes that a humorous saying, “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” is a faithful saying. That means if you’re a sinner needing a Savior, you can depend on the fact that Christ came to save you, no matter who you are or what you’ve done.
Don’t you wish all old sayings were that dependable? They say, “You get what you pay for,” but I don’t have to tell you that sometimes you don’t. But even under God’s kingdom program for Israel, the Lord declared,
“They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick…I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” (Matthew 9:12,13).
I’m barely old enough to remember when doctors made house calls, and my doctor once came to our home to treat my asthma. Of course, he wouldn’t have come if I hadn’t needed medical attention. Similarly, Christ wouldn’t have come into the world to save sinners if men didn’t need salvation.
But if you’re not saved, and are unwilling to admit you’re a sinner, you’re in trouble, for that would mean that Christ didn’t come to save you! If you’re willing to acknowledge that “all have sinned” (Rom. 3:23), but you think yourself to be pretty godly overall, you’re still in trouble, for “Christ died for the ungodly” (Rom. 5:6). If that forces you to concede you are an ungodly sinner, but you think you and God are still on good terms, you are still in trouble, for you must admit to being among His “enemies” if you want to be “reconciled to God by the death of His Son…” (Rom. 5:10).
But don’t be discouraged, all of this is actually good news! What if Paul had said, “Christ Jesus came into the world to save tall people,” and you are “vertically challenged.” You can’t admit to being tall, but you can admit to being a sinner. Why not admit it right now, and believe that Christ died to pay for your sins, and rose again (I Corinthians 15:3,4). If you’re saved, why not repeat this old saying to someone today! “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” is not a saying that should go without saying

Knowing Christ As He Should Be Known - by Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

Knowing Christ As He Should Be Known -
 by Pastor Cornelius R. Stam
John the Baptist introduced our Lord with the proclamation: “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand” (Matthew 3:2). Throughout His earthly ministry Christ was known as “the Son of David”, the king with whom God made a covenant to establish His Kingdom forever.
The Old Testament prophets predicted that Christ would — and He will — reign on earth upon the throne of His father David. While His Kingdom was being proclaimed “at hand”, He walked and talked and ate with men as “the Son of Man”. Wearied with travelling, He sat at Jacob’s well and asked for a drink of water. Pressed by the thron He got into a fishing boat and addressed the multitudes from the sea. Hated by His adversaries, He was tried, scourged, spit upon, and nailed to a tree. This was indeed “Christ manifest in the flesh”.
With regard to His humiliation, however, the Apostle Paul says, by divine inspiration: “God also hath highly exalted Him and given Him a name which is above every name” (Philippian2:9).
Again, the Apostle declares that God’s mighty power was “wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, FAR ABOVE ALL…” (Ephesian1:20). He is no longer to be known as “the lowly Jesus”, but as the exalted “Lord” in heaven. And this has its bearing on us too:
“Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: Yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now, henceforth, know we Him no more” (II Corinthia5:16). Our blessed Saviour is now to be known as the glorified Son of God, the Great Dispenser of Grace to a lost humanity; the One who in love and mercy “tasted death for every man” (Hebrews 2:9).

THE STAR - By Elvin C. Myers

THE STAR
By Elvin C. Myers

Scripture Reading: Matthew 2:7-10

The wise men saw the star and a message in its  appearance. There are many questions about this mysterious  star. Where was it when the wise men saw it? Was it really a  star? Why did the people in Judea seem to be unaware of it?  How could a star high up in the heavens pinpoint one  particular house in a particular town? How did the wise men  know the star meant a king in Israel had been born? .

What the wise men saw was an "astera." This Greek word  is almost always translated star; but "almost" implies there are  exceptions, and a star might not always be a heavenly body.  Numbers 24:17 says, "There shall come a star out of Jacob,"  and this cannot be a heavenly body. It is a reference to Christ.  Revelation 1:16 and 20 calls angels stars. Jude 13 says evil  teachers are wandering stars.

The wise men identify the light as exclusively "His star."  An undogmatic suggestion says that the expression "we have  seen His star in the east" means the light they saw was in the  east where they lived, not over Judea. This would explain why  the people in Judea knew nothing about it. A second  suggestion is that the star was not a heavenly body at all but  was the Shikinah glory of the Lord. Israel was very familiar  with this light, even though it had long since disappeared from  the Holy of Holies. The Jews living in Persia knew the royal  family would come from Jacob and through the tribe of Judah.  Since Daniel gives a time when the Messiah would appear, it  is highly possible that the Jews living in Persia were watching  for a sign of His appearance. When they saw the light, the  Shikinah glory of the Lord, they knew Christ the King had  been born.

Be Ye Reconciled to God- by Pastor Ricky Kurth

Be Ye Reconciled to God
by Pastor Ricky Kurth

“Why does Paul beseech the Corinthians to be reconciled to God (2 Cor. 5:20) if they were already justified ‘saints’ (1 Cor. 1:2; 6:11)?”
“…be ye reconciled to God” (2 Cor. 5:20).
In this verse, Paul is not telling the Corinthians to be reconciled to God, he is telling them what to tell unbelievers.
If we back up to verse 18, we see Paul tell the believers in Corinth that God “hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.” He then goes on to define the ministry of reconciliation when he begins the very next verse with the words “to wit.” Those words mean “namely” or “that is to say.” So Paul is telling believers what to say to unsaved people when they go forth with the ministry of reconciliation. We might paraphrase him to say:
“God has given us the ministry of reconciliation, so go out and tell the lost, ‘God was in Christ as He hung on the cross, imputing your trespasses to Him and not to you. He then committed this message of reconciliation to us believers, and now we are His ambassadors. If He were here, He’d be begging you to be reconciled to Him, but He’s not, we’re here in His stead.’”
The Corinthians were already righteous (1 Cor. 1:30), so we know Paul was telling them to tell unsaved people that they “might” be made righteous (2 Cor. 5:20) by believing the gospel.
