Scripture Reading: Ephesians 1:4-6
"[God] hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will to the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the Beloved [One)" (Ephesians 1:4-6).
Amazing grace! We, who by grace through faith are members of the Body of Christ, are blessed above those of all former dispensations. Accepted in the Beloved! There could be no closer relationship. "For in Him [Christ] dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power" (Colossians 2:9-10).
Our position is acquired without our having earned it or deserved it. "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us" (Titus 3:5). He asks nothing in return but our love, our thanks, our praise and our total dedication to serving and glorifying Him. This is little enough as compared with "His great love wherewith He loved us" (Ephesians 2:4).
"[He] gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father" (Galatians 1:4). "Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift" (II Corinthians 9:15). How ironic it is that any recipients of this great sacrificial blessing should regard it lightly and thanklessly! To the saints at Corinth, Paul wrote, "Ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal?" (I Corinthians 3:3)
