GOODNESS OF GOD

Scripture Reading:
Psalms 31: 19
"There is none good
but one, that is, God" (Matthew 19: 17). Ultimately, only God is
good in the purest sense of the meaning of goodness. All of His
wondrous works may be said to spring from His goodness. "Oh that
men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and (or His wonderful
works to the children of men! For He satisfieth the longing soul with
goodness" (Psalms 107:8, 9).
God's love, His mercy and
His grace are all the products of His goodness. "For the word of
the Lord is right; and all His works are done in truth. He loveth
righteousness and judgment: the earth ilf full of the goodness of the
Lord" (Psalms 33:4, 5). God, however, reserves the bestowal of
His goodness for appropriate and warranted conditions. When Moses
received the tablets of stone from the hand of God,
"The Lord descended
in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the mime of
the Lord. And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The
Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and
abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands,
forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no
means clear the guilty ... " (Exodus 34:5-7).
By the grace of God we of
this dispensation of His grace are spiritually blessed through the
fall of His chosen people Israel. "Well; because of unbelief
they [the nation Israel] were broken off, and thou [the Gentile
world] standeth by faith. Be not high minded, but fear: for if God
spared not the natural branches, take heed lest He also spare not
thee. "Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on
them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness ...
